“To my mind, YA is a subset of adult fiction, not of children’s fiction, and should be considered as having an entry reading age rather than an age *range*. The entry level is probably 13 or 14, but there is no upper level because the books are also for adults. Saying YA is 13-21, or 13-18 or…
Poor boy. This reminds me of a conversation I had with my editor in which she was like: “Jace has so many names. Surely we can dispense with some.”
And I was like, “Not yet, because what other people call him says something about them and their relationship to him. Sebastian will call him Jace Morgenstern, because that’s who he wants him to be. Brother Zachariah will call him Jace Herondale because the fact that Jace is a Herondale is of interets to him. Clary will call him Jace Lightwood because that’s who she knows he wants to be.”
Her: So can we get rid of Jace Wayland?
Me: No one calls him that but people will always remember it because it’s how he was introduced.
Her: Augh.
Me: If it’s any consolation, that’s how you know in genre fiction that someone is important. They have a lot of names. Look at Aragorn. He was born Estel, but his real name was Aragorn, but he called himself Strider in Bree, Eomer calls him Wingfoot, his name when he’s king is Elessar Telcontar, and then he called himself Thorongil for a while —
Her: No more Lord of the Rings nerdery, please.
Me: I’m just saying it could be worse.
Jace …
Rising thesps Chandler Canterbury and Boyd Holbrook are in final negotiations to round out the cast of Open Road Films’ “The Host,” an adaptation of “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer’s popular sci-fi novel.
Andrew Niccol (“In Time”) is writing and directing the pic, which stars Saoirse Ronan star as protag Melanie Stryder, whose body is invaded by an alien named Wanderer, also to be played by Ronan. Max Irons (“Red Riding Hood”) and Ronan’s “Lovely Bones” co-star Jake Abel will play the male leads, and William Hurt is set to co-star as Melanie’s uncle, who leads the human resistance from its underground headquarters.
Canterbury will play Ronan’s younger brother, who she goes on an arduous journey to find, while Holbrook will play Abel’s macho brother.

“I shall charm him with such force that when I am done, he will be left lying limply on the ground, trying to remember his own name.” - Will Herondale
The smile makes him a very good choice, it has to be said.
Here it is: Jace and Clary’s first kiss as seen from Jace’s point of view, in City of Bones. Thank you to everyone who voted for Clary in the heroines tournament. To see girls in fiction celebrated is a wonderful thing.
If Clary wins her match against Tessa in the YA Sisterhood tournament then we will get to read Jace’s PoV of the greenhouse scene from City of Bones. I’m sure we all remember that scene, but a little reminder never hurt anyone…
In between one step and another she saw a white spark struck off something on the floor: It was the knife Jace had been using to cut apples, lying on its side. She jerked hastily back to avoid stepping on it, and her shoulder bumped his-he put a hand out to steady her, just as she turned to apologize, and then she was somehow in the circle of his arm and he was kissing her.
It was at first almost as if he hadn’t wanted to kiss her: His mouth was hard on hers, unyielding; then he put both arms around her and pulled her against him. His lips softened. She could feel the rapid beat of his heart, taste the sweetness of apples still on his mouth. She wound her hands into his hair, as she’d wanted to do since the first time she’d seen him. His hair curled around her fingers, silky and fine. Her heart was hammering, and there was a rushing sound in her ears, like beating wings-
Obviously, Clary is up against Tessa who comes with non Herondale related bonus content if she wins, so if that rocks your boat, then you can vote for her at the same link. For my own purposes though? I love them both for the most part, but Clary gets the edge at the moment. Happy voting!
I thought it’s been long enough and the inscription can be shared publicly, although I had been offering to send it to people through my ask. Do avert your eyes if you do not wish to read it or have yet to finish Clockwork Prince!
Enjoy. Although there probably will be some feeling of heartbreak.
